Ego-Tunnel is the first exhibition to display the works of Gregor Schneider in Luxembourg. To mark the occasion, the artist offers a selection from his personal Räume collection, allowing visitors to explore the various major works from his career in art. Through films, photographs and sculptures, the exhibition brings together a total of 150 works and provides an insight into the world of one of the most prominent artists of our time, while posing fundamental questions about how identity is constructed and lost.
It is the way these Räume have been presented and laid out that creates a novel architectural ensemble. Visitors are immersed in the unique work, which seeks to disengage everyday spaces (such as a bathroom, a bedroom, or a standard apartment) from the mundane, leaving visitors to confront a very unique feeling.
Gregor Schneider’s Räume leave viewers with an unexpected transformation: These rooms, which at first glance appear so familiar in appearance, take on a much deeper, often disturbing dimension.
On entering the exhibition, visitors need to leave behind what they think they know in the cloakroom, and face existential questions which go as far as to say that our sense of self is just a figment of our imagination.

BIOGRAPHY
Gregor Schneider is a German artist. He was born on 5 April 1969 in Rheydt – now Mönchengladbach-Rheydt – where he lives to this day, right next to the Garzweiler brown coal open-cast mine. Thanks to the massive structural change in this area, with its ‘dying villages and newly emerging villages', he identifies with the city of Esch. That subject forms the basis of many of his works.
Professorships: From 1999 to 2003, Schneider was a visiting professor and guest speaker at various art colleges, including: De Ateliers in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, Germany, and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark, AA School of Architecture in London, England, and Yale School of Art in New Haven, USA. Gregor Schneider was appointed Professor of Sculpture at the University of the Arts in Berlin (UDK Berlin) in 2009 and Professor of Sculpture at the University of Fine Arts in Munich (HFBK Munich) in 2013. Since 2016, he has held a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf (Kunstakademie Düsseldorf).
